The leaderboard area simply shows you the current top leaderboard stats. Since there is an option in the Event settings to hide the leaderboard from the players' view, you can always access the leaderboard stats as an admin here.
NOTE - This only shows the top X players in the leaderboard, as defined in the Event settings as well. If you want to know the full leaderboard stats for all the players, check out our help guide article on exporting challenge data.
