Creating the QR Challenge
- Open the side menu to access the [Admin] area.
- Open the Admin area's side menu to tap on [Challenges].
- Tap on the (+) button, then select [QR].
- Tap on the newly created QR Challenge at the bottom of the list.
Editing the QR Challenge Details
- This will bring you to the QR Challenge's edit view.
- Enter a title.
- Enter a text description explaining where players can find the QR code for the challenge.
- (Optional) If you'd like to display some text underneath the green Completed checkmark at the bottom of the challenge once the challenge is completed, type it into the After Complete box. Unlike the popups that appear after the challenge is completed, text typed in here will always be available for players to view. However, it is more subtle than the popups.
- (Optional) If you'd like to display an image, enter the URL of an image that is publicly hosted online or upload your own!
- Enter the aspect ratio of the image. Aspect ratio = image width/image height. For example, a 1024x1024 size image would have an aspect ratio of 1, while a 1024x512 size image would have an aspect ratio of 2, etc.
- (Optional) If you'd like to include a sound clip, enter the URL of a sound clip that is publicly hosted online or upload your own!
- (Optional) If you'd like to include a video, enter the URL of a video that is publicly hosted online or upload your own!
- (Optional) If you'd like to include a YouTube video, enter in its ID. You can get the ID from the video's page by clicking on [Share] -- the ID is everything after the last "/" in the link. For example, for this video: https://youtu.be/fSsP63gBQnI the ID is fSsP63gBQnI.
- Enter the number of points the challenge is worth.
- (Optional) If you only want players to be able to attempt the challenge once, check the box next to Single try.
- By default, the box will be checked to "Use event start and end dates." If you would like for this specific challenge not to appear until a certain date and time or to disappear by a certain date and time, you may set a start and end time that's different from the event.
- (Optional) If you want to create a random pool of challenges, of which only 1 is shown to the player, enter in a name for this pool in the Pool name textbox.
- If you want to add another challenge to the same pool as this one, make sure to type in EXACTLY the same Pool name. Take care not to add any extra spaces or punctuation, otherwise our system will likely read it as a separate challenge pool.
- You can have multiple challenge pools! We recommend making the pool names descriptive, i.e. "colors," "shapes," "numbers," instead of "pool1," "pool2," "pool3," so that there is less risk of typing in the wrong Pool name.
Generating the QR Code
- Enter the text you would like to use to generate the QR code that should be scanned. This can be anything from a random alphanumeric set of characters, to a specific phrase or word, to a website link or even a pre-existing QR code that has already been printed.
- Please note that if the text is NOT a website link or a pre-existing QR code, then the text should only contain alphanumeric characters and NOT any special characters such as "&", as this may cause the QR code to not work.
- If using a pre-existing QR code, you will need to use the native device scanner or third-party scanner to scan it first, then copy/paste the text associated with the QR code into this field.
- To distribute the generated QR code:
- On the computer: Tap [Download]
- On a mobile device: Tap and hold the QR code image to save it to your device.
- Then print or display the code digitally where you would like for your players to find and scan it!
- (Optional) If you want this challenge to be shown in the [Challenges] --> [Places] tab, check the box next to Show on the Places map.
- If you have the exact coordinates, you can enter them in the latitude and longitude fields. Otherwise you may drag the blue pin on the map to set the location. If you need help getting coordinates check out the bottom of this article: [GPS] How to Create GPS Challenges.
- By default, the message a player will see in a popup upon completing the challenge is set to "Congrats! You've scanned the right code!" Feel free to change this message if you would like.
- By default, the message a player will see in a popup if they have not met the requirements to complete the challenge is set to "Sorry, that's not the right code. Try again!" Feel free to change this message if you would like.
- Then tap the [UPDATE] button.
- The details will now update in the Challenges Tab in the event.
